From Me to You filming

on Thu 21 Apr 2016

We are mid-way through making a short film 'From Me to You' which has been commissioned by the Children's Trust to support families who have been alloacted a place at the specialist centre to know what to expect on arrival.

We have been speaking to inspirational families who have spent time at the centre as well as the incredible staff team to provide what aims to be a realistic view of the place and the experience so new families can have a better idea of what they're coming to.

Birds Fly to Calais

on Tue 26 Jan 2016

We are thrilled to confirm that we are collaborating with Good Chance Theatre in Calais to share our birdcards and run workshops with refugees living in the Jungle

The team will be heading to Calais in mid February to share all the messages of hope and solidarity that we have collected over the last couple of months.

We are currently exploring how we might raise funds for the trip to happen. If you would like to offer support for deep:black to go to Calais please get in touch with Katharine

T2T staff sessions at Park View

on Fri 22 Jan 2016

As part of our award winning project Time 2 Talk at Park View school we recently had the privilege of running some workshops on peer mentoring and emotional wellbeing for staff.

Like a final piece of the jigsaw fitting into place, the sessions were an integral part of this project that aims to offer a whole school approach to emottional wellbeing. Over the course of an INSET day staff welcomed the opportunity to find out more about the peer mentoring service running in the school and had an opportunity to try out being a mentor! They left workshops in awe of those young people who are currently volunteering as mentors and the work they do. The other workshop was focused on exploring pressure and the impact of stress on students and staff. Staff were keen to share their experiences and tips as well as identify actions and next steps to support their own emotional wellbeing.

'Everyone who experienced the deep:black sessions has said how good they were, how needed it was and that it has helped them in their work. I think our staff were like thirsty plants craving a little nurturing. They have blossomed a little now. Thank you so much. Your careful, empathetic approach is so valuable for us to move forward. Excellent.'

Birdcards flying home

on Mon 14 Dec 2015

We are feeling really heartened by the response to Birds Crossing Borders.

We have been receiving a steady stream of beautiful and inspiring birdcards with message of hope and solidarity to those people stuck in the jungle in Calais.

We still have a few packs left so if you haven't had your cards yet and would like a set of 6 beautifully designed cards please just email Katharine with your name and postal address and we will send a pack out to you.

We are planning to take the cards to Calais in January and are currently talking to partner organisations working in the camp to explore how the messages might be shared and responded to. Watch this space for updates...

Birds Crossing Borders

on Thu 26 Nov 2015

We officially launched our latest project Birds Crossing Borders in response to the current refugee situation in Europe, at the E8 Anti-University Event at Hackney Museum last weekend.

Visitors to the event responded by writing powerful messages of hope on our specially designed 'Birdcards'. We are asking for volunteers who would like to receive a pack of cards to hand out to people in their network. If you would like a pack of 6 cards please email Katharine.

The plan is to collect all the cards together for an exhibition in London in early January before delivering the cards to 'The Jungle' in Calais.

For more information on the project please see our blog.
